- Use the same size boxes and fill to capacity to prevent tip over or the box collapsing.
- Label all boxes for easy identification.
- Wrap dishes and glassware in newspaper or wrapping paper and ‘nest’ bowls and cups, fill any air pockets to keep dishes from shifting.
- Clothing, curtains should be stored on hangers. Other clothing can be folded and stored in boxes and/or dresser drawers.
- A refrigerator or freezer should be cleaned out and be thoroughly dry and stored with door slightly open to prevent mildew.
- Do not place boxes directly on concrete floors, but pallets of skids to absorb moisture.
- Sofas and love seats can be on stored on end to save floor space, if structure if such items can support it.
- Tables with removable legs should be broken down to save space.
- Pack your boxes and other items as close together as possible to avoid moisture between them.
- Leave a small space between the wall and your storage items to allow for ventilation.
- Under no circumstances should you store flammable or combustible items.
